Manchester Single Reed is the brain child of Abi Boardman. It is the first Manchester based non-residential school which is specially dedicated to Clarinet and Saxophone education and development.

Abi studied clarinet at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, and since graduating in 2000 has had a successful performance career. Freelancing with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic and The Halle Orchestras, as well as 5 seasons playing 2nd and Bass clarinet with Birmingham Opera Company.

Education has also formed a large part of Abi’s career teaching Clarinet and Saxophone at the Grange School, Hartford for 10 years and Queen Ethelburgas College in York. Abi also has a long running private practice and for the past 8 years has been the Conductor of the Junior Chamber Orchestra at Warrington Youth Orchestra.

Manchester Single Reed aims to provide exciting courses in Manchester for Clarinettists and Saxophonists, tutored by the UK’s finest performers and educators, and from this the students will receive an outstanding musical experience.
